Getting Ready for Chinese New Year: A Practical Checklist for Your Preparation

Can you see it? The sights, sounds, scents, the sweetness of the moments
as we prepare for Chinese New Year?

“Even a busy season is one that can be enjoyed deeply.”

Chinese New Year is a busy season, and we understand that there’s much to do.

Here’s a helpful checklist you can print or screenshot to prepare for the new year in your own time. We hope you have a restful and enjoyable Chinese New Year with everyone you love.

Simple and practical steps to prepare for Chinese New Year

1. Schedule your gatherings with family and friends.

Taking time to connect and make time in your calendar for your loved ones.

Here are some key dates to mark out in your calendar this Chinese New Year:

  • Reunion dinner
28th Jan 2025 or earlier, if your close family is intending to take a family trip abroad this Chinese New Year.
  • Lohei with close friends
  • Company celebration dinner
  • E-meets or video calls with loved ones abroad

2. Place orders for your CNY goodies!

To munch on and share with loved ones, relatives and friends.

Before we dive into the array of mouthwatering CNY goodies, don’t forget to order or buy ingredients to make yusheng for your family reunion.

  1. Yusheng
  2. Pineapple tarts
  3. Kueh Bangkit
  4. Hae Bee Hiam rolls
  5. Bakkwa
  6. Arrowhead chips
  7. Love Letters
  8. Green pea cookies

and many more…

For those of you who are considering sending gifts to your co-workers, or are admin assistants who are shopping for gifts on behalf of your company (we see you!), you may refer to our freshly launched CNY gift guide for top picks based on what our other cherished customers have been buying.

3. Spring clean your homes and office desks.

Thanksgiving for the past year, making room for the future.

As you spring clean your houses and offices, these are some places you may want to consider taking stock of what you have, discarding and/or giving away anything you no longer use.

  • Study room tables / Office desks
  • Clothing cabinets
  • Cupboards and drawers
  • Kitchen, especially your fridges!

If you’re someone who enjoys putting your creativity to good use, you could also upcycle old things to turn them into something new.

4. Shop for CNY clothes and decorations.

As a reminder of a fresh beginning to the new year!

  • Family outfits
If your family has this tradition of wearing matching CNY clothes, take some time to choose your favourite designs online, physical retail stores or on social media, and share them with your family.

While you’re at it, you could consider supporting local companies which have designs that catch your eye.
  • Personal apparel, for going out to formal and casual occasions, and comfortable clothes to wear at home
  • Chinese New Year decorations for your homes and/or offices

5. Prepare your red packets, physical bank notes and mandarin oranges.

A gift from the heart is a valuable gift, no matter how big or small the amount.

After planning out your Chinese New Year visitations in step 1, you can now fix a budget for your angbao packing and Chinese New Year gifts.

Don’t forget to pack a few extra red packets if you want in case of any surprise visits from relatives!
